A Positive Birth Story

A Positive Birth Story

10 years ago today 13.01.2010, I had not long given birth to our middle child!

If you are longing to hear a positive birth story, then this one couldn’t get any better!

A day very much like today, hot, sunny, and I was entirely over it at 40+ 3 days, she although I thought a HE had been due on the 9th.

Contractions had started around 10am, and I was very relaxed and chilled. I think it was about 11am when I needed a coffee and a walk on the beach.

Contractions were regular, but I was fine, I mean, I had my caffeine fix, and I was at the beach.

32 weeks pregnant with baby number 2 – October 2009

Ian took Miss 2Yo for a play on the rocks, and I sat and relaxed on a bench overlooking the Ocean.

When the contractions came, I would take to the back of the bench and squat hang, I have no idea how long I did this for!

Hubby came back and had said a passer-by was concerned but he had said she’s ok, she is just in labor!

The contractions were getting much stronger now, and I was having to stay on the back of the bench, but I told them I was still ok and to go and get Ice-cream.

Time for a Quick RE-CAP here… My first birth had been a posterior 24 hour Marathon, so I was trying to focus on doing my best and not getting to the hospital TOO early. Hence being perhaps a little too relaxed.

About the second, they had gone out of view, or should I say shouting range the contractions INTENSIFIED significantly.

I held on a little longer called Ian and told him he needed to come back and get me. They were stuck in the ice-cream line.

When he got back to me, I couldn’t speak, so he had to ring the midwife, and then when we needed to walk the 100 meters back to the car, I realized I could hardly move!
Luckily the hospital was less than a 5 min drive away, I just remember Dad and Kate sharing Ice-cream.

It was 2:30, the midwife was on her way, and so was my sister to pick up kate off us, although in hindsight, she needn’t have bothered!

I think we must have looked like a Skit scene from a comedy show.

We couldn’t get a park, so Ian basically threw kate to my sister, I tried to walk out the car- that was a bad idea, so Ian grabbed a wheelchair.
I was in full-on labor now, very vocal too, which I know as we went up in the elevator to the birth ward must have scared the newly pregnant couples in the elevator.

Finally a room, I had to get my clothes off and was screaming for gas, the hospital midwives took one look at me and said calm down you have a long way to go. As she said this, my waters broke.
Ian had gone out to move the car and to see if my midwife was around.

It was about 3pm, My midwife walked in, Ian still wasn’t back, and she decided to check me!

10 cm and what was that she said I was ready to push, I couldn’t believe it, are you kidding, really. Ian walked in. I was so excited I said I can push!!!

Brooke was born just before 3:30, Kate and my sister were back with us before 4pm, and I think we were all eating pizza at 5pm!
A fantastic birth, although I was pretty shocked, it was another GIRL!

Big sister Kate not looking that impressed meeting her little sister Brooke for the first time lol! They are still like this today,  10 years later!

I never did get that gas and I wish every one of you all the best for your labors and births.
